The Chakra Mandala Series (II)

Continuing from my previous blog in which I wrote in more depth about the Chakras; where I’ve displayed the color versions of my Chakra Mandalas, here (above) are the Monochrome versions of these Chakra Mandalas (from left to right : the Heart Chakra, Solar Plexus Chakra, Sacral Chakra, Root Chakra). These do take quite some time to lay out, to draw, and then go on to the final stages of filling in and creating the color or monochrome versions….

The drawings were first laid out lightly using a mechanical pencil; hand-drawn, then I go in (slowly, steadily, carefully!) with black ink.

I intend to go on with the series and create the next, final three Mandalas, moving upwards, next to the Throat Chakra, then the Third Eye, and finally the Crown Chakras.

Unusual in this series is the combination, and cross-cultures, of the Sanskrit symbol (at the center of each Mandala) and the Celtic elements (Celtic Chains, Trefoils, etc…) that surround these symbols.

The Trefoil(s) (as seen in the Heart Chakra Mandala) are a Celtic symbol of Protection. There are a variety of Trefoils in this Heart Chakra Mandala; 24 different (infinite) Celtic Knots. These miniature Trefoils were particularly challenging to draw as the triangular space for each is so tight and tiny.
