The Throat Chakra Mandala. A continuation of the Chakra Mandala series…

The Throat Chakra Mandala is the 5th installment in the series of my projected 7 Principal Chakra Mandalas.

The most common Sanskrit name for this Chakra is the Vishuddha or Vishuddhi, the fifth primary chakra according to the Hindu tradition of tantra, and is related to the Endocrine system, governed by the Thyroid gland and is considered the passageway of the energy between the lower parts of the body and the head. The function of the Throat chakra and related to our expression and communication.

This Chakra is most commonly represented with the color blue, turquoise, or aquamarine blue. Supposedly the auric color of Throat chakra energy can be seen by some as a smoky purple or turquoise. I have, as with the other Chakra Mandalas in this series, used complimentary colors to enhance and add harmony (and hopefully beauty!) to the image. At its core, the image of the Throat Chakra consists of a circle with sixteen petals, and at the center a downward-pointing triangle in which is inscribed another circle (here with the Sanskrit symbol at the center).

Again, I found many examples of this Sanskrit symbol (I believe the drawing of this symbol has come out particularly well in this Mandala), and I have combined a certain Celtic influence with it, as in the other Mandalas in my series, here in particular as regards the outer Celtic Chain. I had some fun adding the brake lines to this chain (divisions, or patterns of eight, with “break lines” in the middle and ends of each repetition - if that makes any sense…). These Mandalas were all hand drawn, laid out in black ink, then colored (the use of a compass, however, is obviously necessary to lay out the circles, but otherwise the petals, Celtic chains, and the Trefoils that appeared in, for example, the Root Chakra, Solar Plexus Chakra, and Heart Chakra Mandalas, etc., were drawn freehand).

This Mandala, as in other Chakra Mandalas, is based on Sacred Geometry.

Next up, I plan to continue the series of the 7 Principal Chakra Mandalas with the Third Eye Chakra (or Ajna in Sanskrit) and finally the Crown Chakra (Sahasrara in Sanskrit; meaning a Thousand petals).
